(On a flitting side note: I always find it interesting that so many late 19th century and early 20th century Minneapolis neighborhoods are named for popular literary figures of the preceding few generations not just Longfellow, but also Whittier, Cooper, and Hawthorne. Borges stands in front of Fjelde's sculpture of Hiawatha and Minnehaha. Borges was in town for a lecture, and Klipper as one often wants to do with an out of town guest took him down to the falls. Klipper has given me permission to reprint the photo here. This was a beautiful, moderate hike, but the directions and information in the guidebook were not helpful to me. My GPS said that the hike was longer than 4.5 miles from the trail head to the springs more burberry like 6 miles. I also would describe the trail more as intervals, rather than gradual uphill. The GPS coordinates for the burberry springs didn't match up and I don't think I found the main springs that is pictured in the book. We found three small pools, two were adjacent to the river one on each side. We enjoyed soaking in the pools we did find and had the place to ourselves. I would like to do this trip as a backpack, stay in the campground burberry there, and explore the area.
